CHIDOZIE by Fr. Bart C. Ezeokafor — Lyrics
About CHIDOZIE
This is a deeply moving Igbo prayer of restoration and healing. The title "Chidozie" translates to a plea for God to repair, mend, or make things right. The song carries a profound sense of surrender, asking the Lord to cleanse the singer in His precious blood and to fix whatever is broken in their life.
In the verses, the lyrics draw on powerful biblical examples of transformation—mentioning Mary Magdalene, Zacchaeus, and the Samaritan woman at the well. It reminds the congregation that the same Christ who met these figures and changed their lives completely is still present in the Holy Eucharist to do the same for us today. The final section opens up into a beautiful, ad-libbed solo over a softly repeating refrain, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
Choirs will find this piece especially fitting for the Communion rite or during Penitential seasons like Lent, where the focus is on repentance, healing, and drawing closer to God's mercy. The gentle, allegretto tempo allows the choir to sing with both earnestness and hope.
