Benedic anima mea by Jacob Regnart — Lyrics
About Benedic anima mea
Jacob Regnart was a Franco-Flemish composer of the late Renaissance. This setting of Psalm 102 uses a non-Vulgate translation of the text, which speaks of God's boundless mercy and restorative power. The SATB choir expresses the praise and gratitude demanded by these benefits: the forgiveness of sins, healing of infirmities, redemption from destruction, and the renewal of youth. The motet unfolds the psalm's rich imagery of divine compassion, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, creating a devotional and uplifting musical experience.
