Benedic anima mea by Pierre de Manchicourt — Lyrics

Benedic anima mea Domino, et noli oblivisci omnes retributiones ejus; qui propitiatur omnibus iniquitatibus tuis, qui sanat omnes infirmitates tuas; Qui redemit de interitu vitam tuam, qui coronat te in misericordia et miserationibus; qui replet in bonis desiderium tuum: faciens judicium omnibus injuriam patientibus.

About Benedic anima mea

Pierre de Manchicourt was a composer of sacred music active in the first half of the 16th century. This motet, Benedic anima mea, is a setting of Psalm 102. The text praises God for his goodness and mercy, recounting his forgiveness of sins and healing of infirmities. Manchicourt’s setting is for an expanded choir, alternating between SAAT and SATB textures, creating rich sonorities suitable for liturgical performance. The intricate vocal writing reflects the devotional spirit of the Counter-Reformation period, offering a powerful expression of gratitude and faith.
