About Ave verum corpus
This setting of the well-known Latin text Ave verum corpus for SSATB voices is by Tomoya Furukawa. The devotional text, from the Liber Usualis, meditates on the true body of Christ, born of the Virgin Mary, who suffered and was sacrificed on the cross for humankind. The lyrics recall the blood and water flowing from Christ's pierced side, and implore Jesus, the sweet and merciful Son of Mary, to be a foretaste of salvation in the hour of death. This motet offers a profound and reflective musical setting of familiar and cherished liturgical words, suitable for moments of quiet contemplation or solemn worship.
