About Ave Regina caelorum

Jacques-Louis Battmann composed this setting of the Marian antiphon Ave Regina caelorum for SATB choir. The Latin text, a prayer to Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth, addresses her with titles such as 'Lady of the Angels', 'Root' and 'Gate' from which sprang the world's light. It continues with a joyful acclamation 'Rejoice, glorious Virgin', praising her beauty and asking her to pray to Christ for us. Battmann's motet brings this devotional text to life with rich harmonies and a flowing melodic line suitable for liturgical use or concert performance.
