Ave Regina caelorum

Cipriano de Rore's Ave Regina caelorum is a rich and sonorous setting of the familiar Marian antiphon. The composer treats the text with devotional care, exploring its meaning through a masterful interplay of voices. The polyphony is dense and intricate, creating a devotional atmosphere appropriate for the sacred Latin text. The work unfolds with a majestic breadth, moving from moments of quiet contemplation to passages of soaring grandeur. The voicing, SAAATTB|SAAATBarB, allows for a wide range of expressive colour and dynamic contrast. This motet offers a profound musical reflection on the Queen of Heaven, Mother of the King of Angels, invoking her prayers for the faithful.
