About Ave Regina Caelorum
Sebastiano Cherici’s setting of the Marian antiphon Ave Regina Caelorum for SAB voices opens with a flowing melodic line supported by rich harmonic writing. The Latin text, a prayer to Mary as Queen of Heaven, is treated with devotional sincerity, with the composer’s vocal lines carefully shaped to articulate the sacred words. The texture shifts between homophonic passages and moments where the voices engage in gentle imitative interplay, creating a warm and resonant sound. Cherici’s setting offers a straightforward yet expressive musical setting of this traditional votive antiphon, suitable for services and concerts.
