About Ave Regina caelorum
Giuseppe Antonio Bernabei's SSAATBB setting of the Marian antiphon Ave Regina caelorum is a devotional motet in Latin. The text, a traditional prayer to Mary, Queen of Heaven, addresses her as Lady of the Angels and hails her as the root and gate from which light was born into the world. It rejoices in her glorious beauty and asks her to pray for us to Christ. Bernabei's rich six-part texture is well-suited to the soaring praises and earnest pleas of the text, creating a powerful and moving musical expression of Marian devotion.
