Aurea luce — Lyrics

1. Aurea luce et decore roseo, Lux lucis, omne perfudisti saeculum: decorans caelos inclito martyrio. Hac sacra die, quae dat reis veniam. 2. Janitor caeli, doctor orbis pariter, Judices saecli, vera mundi lumina: Per crucem alter, alter ense triumphans, Vitae senatum laureati possident. 3. O felix Roma, quae tantorum principum es purpurata pretioso sanguine, non laude tua, sed ipsorum meritis excellis omnem mundi pulchritudinem. 4. Jam, bone Pastor Petre, clemens accipe Vota precantum, et peccati vincula

About Aurea luce

This unison chant in Latin is drawn from the sacred office, with a text celebrating saints. The opening verses address Christ as the light of the world, honouring martyrs and apostles. Later stanzas invoke Saint Peter as the 'janitor of heaven' and Saint Paul as the 'doctor of the world', reflecting on their roles and triumphs. The hymn praises Rome for its martyrs and concludes with a prayer to Peter for forgiveness and access to heaven, and to Paul for guidance in living a holy life. The music is presented on a staff, typical for liturgical chant.
