About Ascendit Deus
This motet sets a powerful Latin text from Psalm 46, proclaiming God's dominion over all nations. The words speak of universal praise, of God's majesty, and His choice of His people. The text imagines a triumphant ascent of God, accompanied by the sound of trumpets, and calls for wise singing to our King. Jacob Regnart's setting for ATTTB voices captures this sense of grandeur and divine authority.
