WAN YONGU U AONDO by Joe Ekandem — Lyrics
About WAN YONGU U AONDO
"Wan Yongu U Aondo" is a reverent setting of the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) composed by Joe Ekandem. Sung in the Tiv language, this piece accompanies the fraction rite, the sacred moment during Mass when the Eucharistic bread is broken just before Communion.
The lyrics faithfully carry the traditional petition of the liturgy, asking the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world to have mercy on us ("zungwe se mhoonum") and ultimately to grant us peace ("na se beem"). Ekandem’s arrangement in solfa notation offers a gentle, flowing melody that helps the choir and congregation enter into a spirit of deep prayer as they prepare to approach the altar.
