Ụyọ Épéé!!! by Ifeanyichukwu Ize — Lyrics
About Ụyọ Épéé!!!
"Ụyọ Épéé!!!" is a vibrant Offertory hymn composed in the distinctive Nsukka dialect of the Igbo language. The title itself evokes a deep sense of joyful celebration and thanksgiving, setting the perfect tone for the moment the congregation dances forward to present their gifts at the altar. It is a song that invites the whole church to marvel at the goodness of God, acknowledging Him as "Ezechitoke Abiama" (God the Creator) who blesses us morning, afternoon, and night.
Musically, the piece is driven by a lively, folk-inspired rhythm that makes it almost impossible to stand still while singing. The verses walk through profound themes of gratitude, thanking God for the primary gift of life ("Ndu bumbụ") and His total protection—beautifully expressed in the third verse as carrying us on His head and back ("I vur'anyi n'ishi, I gwọr'anyi n'azụ"). For a choir, this is a fantastic choice for a festive Mass, offering a deeply cultural and spirited way to lead the people in praising God for His endless generosity.
