Remember Me by Deborah Govenor — Lyrics
About Remember Me
"Remember Me" is a deeply moving Communion anthem that traces the story of the Eucharist from its very first night to our present moment at the altar. The piece begins in the Upper Room, recounting Christ’s words as He breaks the bread and shares the cup, before shifting the scene to the sorrow and isolation of Gethsemane. It asks a poignant question from the heart of Christ's own agony: "In my darkest hour will you remember me?"
For a choir, this piece offers a wonderful opportunity for expressive, storytelling singing. The final section brings the narrative into the present day. As we approach the altar to receive the Body and Blood, the lyrics remind us that Christ meets us in our own "deepest doubts." It is a perfect, reflective choice for Communion, especially during Lent and Holy Week, drawing the congregation into the profound mystery of the Lord's Supper.
