Regina Caeli

During the fifty days of Easter, the choir loft rings with a different kind of Marian greeting. We set aside the familiar Angelus and instead raise our voices to sing the "Regina Caeli". This setting by Rev. Fr. Roland Ntamba captures the sheer, uncontainable joy of the Resurrection season, inviting the Queen of Heaven to rejoice because the Son she bore has risen just as He promised.

The piece opens with a lively, vivace refrain that dances through the repeated word "laetare" (rejoice), building a bright and festive energy. When we move into the verses, the tempo shifts to a more measured moderato, allowing the choir to clearly proclaim the mystery of the empty tomb before bursting back into the triumphant "Alleluia."

For a choir, this is a wonderful piece to sing at the end of a Sunday Mass in Eastertide or as a special anthem for Marian feasts during the season. The contrast between the spirited, fast-paced refrain and the deliberate, prayerful verses gives singers a chance to show both their rhythmic precision and their expressive warmth. It is a joyful way to lead the congregation in honoring the Blessed Mother.
