ABUOMA 23 by Ohanete C — Lyrics
About ABUOMA 23
"Abuoma 23" is a comforting Igbo choral setting of Psalm 23, composed by Ohanete C. The text, beginning with the familiar declaration "Chineke bụ onye nche m" (The Lord is my shepherd), carries a deep sense of peace and divine protection. Choirs often sing this piece during the Liturgy of the Word when Psalm 23 is the appointed responsorial psalm, or as a reflective meditation during Communion. Its reassuring words remind the congregation of the Good Shepherd who leads His flock to restful waters and restores their souls.
The arrangement is thoughtfully structured to highlight the different movements of the psalm. After the full choir establishes the gentle opening theme, the piece moves through successive verses, including a distinct bass solo for the third section ("I ji mkpara na ọgụgị kwadoro m nso"). The voices eventually reunite to proclaim the final promise of dwelling in the house of the Lord forever ("biri na ya ebebe"). It is a grounding piece that brings a spirit of quiet trust to the Mass.
