Oyala K'owoicho (Lamb of God)

"Oyala K'owoicho" is a reverent Idoma setting of the Agnus Dei, the traditional Lamb of God sung during the breaking of the bread. Written by C.D. Maduabuchi, this short piece brings a deeply local and grounded feel to the Mass ordinary, allowing the congregation to pray for mercy in a familiar tongue just before Communion.

The structure follows the classic three-part liturgical form. For the first two verses, the choir sings "Menyi alo," asking the Lord to have mercy on us. In the final verse, the prayer shifts to "Jebo Lalo," a gentle plea for peace. It is a quiet, meditative chant that settles the church, drawing everyone's focus to the altar as they prepare to receive the Eucharist.
