OTITO DIRI CHINEKE

"Otito Diri Chineke" is a vibrant Igbo setting of the Gloria, the great hymn of praise sung during the introductory rites of the Mass. Composed by Chukwujekwu Nweke, the piece captures the majestic and joyful spirit of the *Gloria in excelsis Deo*, opening with the angelic proclamation of glory to God in the highest and peace to His people on earth.

Nweke structures the piece into a lively central chorus and three distinct verses that follow the traditional liturgical text. The verses guide the choir and congregation through the adoration of the Father, the supplication to the Son, and the final exaltation of the Holy Trinity. The arrangement features engaging interplay between the voice parts, with the tenors and basses taking the lead in the second verse before the sopranos and altos join in to complete the prayer.

Written entirely in tonic sol-fa notation, this score was dedicated to St. Augustine's Choir at St. Anthony's Parish in Jabi, Abuja. It is an excellent choice for festive Sunday Masses, solemnities, and feast days where a spirited, indigenous expression of Catholic worship is desired to lift the hearts of the congregation.
