About KYRIE
"KYRIE" is a solemn and beautifully layered setting of the traditional Mass text, sung in the Urhobo language. As the Penitential Rite, this piece invites the congregation into a moment of deep reflection, asking for God's mercy and compassion before entering fully into the Eucharistic celebration.
In the choir loft, the voices weave together in a gentle polyphony, repeating the plea "Orovwori naruedon" (Lord, have mercy) and "Kristi naruedon" (Christ, have mercy). The steady, deliberate pacing of the solfa notation gives the singers room to express the weight of the words, creating a reverent atmosphere that prepares the faithful for the liturgy ahead.
