ORIN OPE by Daniel Ebhomien, Victus Eze and Justina Ebhomien — Lyrics
About ORIN OPE
"Orin Ope" is a vibrant Yoruba offertory hymn that calls the congregation to bring their thanksgiving and gifts before the Lord. The lyrics immediately set a tone of profound gratitude, with the choir leading the people in thanking God for the gift of life. They acknowledge Him as the Father who has mercifully kept everyone alive to see this present day ("Baba to da wa si d'oni o").
As the song progresses, it draws a vivid parallel to the biblical story of Abel, asking God to accept the offerings brought to the altar just as He accepted Abel's pleasing sacrifice. The melody swells with deep reverence as it praises God's unchanging nature, calling Him "Oyigiyigi" (the immovable rock) and "Arugbo ọjọ" (the Ancient of Days). It also honors the Blessed Virgin Mary ("Ọmọ Maria"), weaving Catholic devotion naturally into the fabric of indigenous praise.
During the Offertory procession, this piece brings a wonderful energy to the Mass. The rhythmic flow and rich harmonies encourage the entire church to step forward with joy. It is a perfect choice for harvest thanksgivings, feast days, or any Sunday where the choir wants to inspire a spirit of genuine, joyful giving.
