ONYE MMEMME (Prayer of the Faithful)

"Onye Mmemme" is a moving, earnest Igbo response designed specifically for the Prayer of the Faithful. The title addresses God as the "Doer of deeds" or the one who makes things happen. When the choir leads this piece, it sets a tone of deep trust and intimacy, carrying the congregation's petitions directly to the altar.

The lyrics are a direct, heartfelt plea: "Etu anyị si kpe n'ekpere biko meere anyị ya" (As we have prayed, please do it for us). It speaks of whispering our needs into God's ears, confident that He will act because He is known for His goodness. During Mass, after the intercessions are read, singing this response allows the whole church to unite their personal, unspoken intentions with the spoken prayers, asking the Father to incline His ear ("too ntị n'ala") and grant what comes from their hearts.

Written in solfa notation, the harmony is warm and supportive, typical of Nigerian Catholic choral responses. The overlapping voices in the lower parts echo the main plea, creating a gentle wave of supplication that resolves on the final, trusting cry of "Nna doo!" (Father, please!). It is a short but powerful moment of communal faith.
