Omogode R' Oghene (Lamb of God)

"Omogode R' Oghene" is a reverent Urhobo setting of the Agnus Dei, sung during the breaking of the bread at Mass. The title translates directly to "Lamb of God," and the piece carries the quiet solemnity expected at this moment in the liturgy. When the choir begins the repeated invocation of "Omogode r' Oghene," it draws the congregation into a posture of humility just before Communion.

HPC Anyanwu's arrangement uses a straightforward four-part harmony that lets the natural cadence of the language lead the melody. The voices move together through the plea for mercy ("na rue don a ra vwa re"), building a unified sound in the choir loft. For the final invocation, the text shifts to the prayer for peace ("vwu fuoma ka vwa re"), allowing the singers to soften their tone and prepare the church for the Eucharistic banquet.
