OBINIGWE NARA

"Obinigwe Nara" is a vibrant Igbo offertory hymn composed by Nweke Chukwujekwu. The title calls upon the "One who lives in heaven" to accept the gifts being brought to the altar. Right from the opening notes, the choir announces the arrival of the congregation with the joyful repetition of "anyị a bịala" (we have come), setting a welcoming and reverent tone for the presentation of gifts.

As the verses unfold, the lyrics focus directly on the Eucharistic elements. The choir sings of bringing bread and wine—gifts that God Himself first provided—and asks the Creator to receive this sacrifice from the hands of the priest ("n'aka ụkọchukwu Gị"). It is a fitting expression of the Offertory's purpose: returning to God the good things He has given us.

During Mass, this piece works wonderfully when the bread and wine are carried up the aisle. The steady, moderato tempo allows the choir to build a sense of solemn but joyful procession. The harmonies are structured to give the soprano line a clear, soaring melody that carries the congregation's prayers straight to the altar.
