Lamb of God

This tranquil setting of the "Lamb of God" brings a gentle, pleading mood to the fraction rite. Based on an existing French melody, this specific arrangement was crafted for the Thomasian Choir of STMCC, Unilag. It offers a serene and reflective atmosphere just before the congregation approaches the altar for Communion.

The music is structured around a reverent call-and-response pattern. The upper voices initiate the prayer with "O Lamb of God," and the lower voices echo the plea. This conversational flow creates a deep sense of a community united in prayer. For the final invocation, the voices come together to ask the Lord to "grant us your peace," ending on a lingering, quiet cadence.

Sung during the breaking of the bread, this piece helps settle the mind and focus the heart on the Eucharist. The familiar English words, paired with the calm and steady progression, make it a moving addition to the Mass that gently prepares everyone to receive the Body and Blood of Christ.
