NWATURU

"Nwaturu" is a vibrant and rhythmic setting of the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) in Igbo, composed by Emma Atuanya. In the Catholic Mass, this is the profound moment during the fraction rite when the congregation calls upon Christ, the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world, asking for His mercy and peace.

Atuanya's arrangement brings a distinct, lively energy to this solemn prayer. Marked "Quasi Allegro," the piece moves with a steady, forward-driving pulse that keeps the choir engaged. The sopranos lead with the familiar plea "Nwa atụrụ nke Chineke," while the underlying harmonies provide a rich, rhythmic foundation—especially in the playful, repeating "nwa nwa nwa nwa" motifs that give the piece its unique character.
