Ñuriwanu Oñu

"ÑURIWANU OÑU" is a vibrant Igbo Christmas carol that calls the whole world to rejoice and sing praises for the birth of the Saviour. Composed by Stephen Mmaduwuihe, the piece captures the pure, uncontained joy of the Nativity season. When the choir launches into the opening refrain, inviting everyone to raise a song of praise ("kwubenu ukwe otito"), it immediately sets a festive and celebratory mood in the church.

The verses walk us through the sacred story of our salvation, starting with the ancient prophecy of Isaiah about a virgin bearing a son named Emmanuel. As the song progresses, we follow the journey of the three wise men from the East, bringing their precious gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the newborn King. It is a wonderful piece for the Christmas season, perfect for the Offertory or as a lively meditation during the festive Masses.
