Nsọ Nsọ Nsọ (Sanctus Igbo) by Marymike Mordi — Lyrics
About Nsọ Nsọ Nsọ (Sanctus Igbo)
When the Eucharistic Prayer begins, the atmosphere in the church shifts. We step into a moment of profound mystery, joining our voices with the angels. Marymike Mordi’s "Nsọ Nsọ Nsọ" captures this exact feeling. It is a reverent, grounded setting of the Sanctus in Igbo, written with a steady flow that anchors the choir and lifts the congregation.
The piece opens with the solemn, repeated proclamation of God's holiness—"Nsọ, nsọ, nsọ, Chukwu Dinwenụ ndị agha enuigwe" (Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts). Mordi builds the harmony carefully, allowing the voices to swell as they declare that heaven and earth are full of His glory. By the time the choir reaches the "Hosanna n'enụ kachasị nụ," the music opens up into a bright, joyful acclamation.
For a choir director, this is the kind of Mass part that quickly becomes a parish staple. It is solemn enough for high feast days but accessible enough for ordinary Sundays. Singing "Ọ dị ngọzi bụ onye bịa n'afa Dinwenụ" (Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord) in this arrangement feels like a true, heartfelt welcome to Christ on the altar.
