About "M'yiga"
When it comes time to profess our faith during Mass, "M'yiga" brings a deeply rooted, communal energy to the Creed. Written in the Khana language of the Ogoni people, this setting by Kpena Wisdom transforms the traditional recitation into a dynamic call-and-response. Instead of a heavy, continuous block of text, the articles of faith are broken down into distinct, chant-like phrases led by a soloist.
After each line—from the creation of the world to the life of "Jisos Christ" and the "Kato-lik" Church—the choir and congregation answer with the steadfast refrain, "M yiga eh!" (I believe!). This structure is incredibly effective in a parish setting. It keeps the assembly engaged, turning the profession of faith into an active, shared dialogue rather than a passive reading.
The music is marked Adagio Con Anima (slowly, with soul), giving the soloist room to deliver the sacred words with clarity and conviction. A mezzo-soprano or a confident cantor can truly shine here, guiding the people through the mysteries of the faith before everyone unites in the final, resonant "Amen." It is a wonderful way to celebrate the Creed with indigenous reverence.
