MURNAR AURE by David Yohanna Jankoli — Lyrics
About MURNAR AURE
"Murnar Aure" is a vibrant Hausa wedding anthem that radiates the pure joy of a couple's special day. The title translates directly to "Wedding Joy," and the piece is a staple for choirs celebrating the sacrament of matrimony in Northern Nigerian parishes. With its lively Allegro tempo and rhythmic, percussive exclamations of "Sam! Sam!! Sam!!!", the song captures the festive energy of a congregation gathering to witness and celebrate the union of the bride (Amarya) and groom (Ango).
The lyrics are a beautiful blend of celebration and prayer. As the choir sings of the witnesses gathered for this Christian marriage (auren Krista), they declare that what God has joined together, no one can separate (Allah ya shirya, ba mai rabawa). The score intentionally leaves blank spaces in the verses so the choir can insert the specific names of the couple being married, making every performance deeply personal to the family.
In its concluding Vivace section, the music accelerates into a jubilant climax. The choir prays for the couple to be blessed with children (ciki da goyo) and to live a life of enduring love (zaman ƙauna). It is a thrilling, uplifting piece that brings the whole church to its feet, perfectly capturing the communal warmth and spiritual blessing of a Nigerian wedding day.
