MAMA

"MAMA" by Emma Orji is a heartfelt Igbo choral tribute written specifically to honour mothers. We often bring pieces like this into the choir loft for Mothering Sunday or special parish celebrations dedicated to the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO). The melody is bright and expressive, marked Allegro cantabile, giving the choir a chance to sing with genuine affection and joy.

The lyrics walk through the deep sacrifices a mother makes, from carrying a child in the womb for nine months to tying them on her back and guiding their first steps. In the verses, the song recalls how a mother loses sleep and peace whenever her child cries or falls ill. It builds to a moving "Tutti" section where the whole choir joins in a unified prayer, asking God to bless our mothers for all they have endured. Singing this piece always brings a smile, and sometimes a few tears, to the mothers in the congregation.
