MISSA IFUNANYA - Nwaturu Nke Chukwu

"Nwaturu Nke Chukwu" is the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) from Jude Nnam’s widely loved Missa Ifunanya (Mass of Love). Sung during the breaking of the bread, this piece carries the deep reverence of the congregation as they prepare for Communion. The gentle 6/8 meter gives the music a swaying, prayerful rhythm that feels both solemn and deeply comforting.

As the choir moves through the invocations, the arrangement builds a warm choral texture. While the sopranos carry the main plea of "meere anyị ebere" (have mercy on us) and "nye anyị udo" (grant us peace), the lower voices—especially the basses—introduce rhythmic responses that give the piece its distinct Nigerian Catholic character. It is a grounding moment in the Mass, drawing the whole church into a unified prayer for Christ's mercy and peace.
