MAI TSARKI by Jude Nnam — Lyrics
About MAI TSARKI
"Mai Tsarki" is a vibrant Hausa setting of the Sanctus, composed by Jude Nnam. The piece captures the solemn yet joyful proclamation of God's holiness, opening with the reverent call "O mai Tsarki" before moving into the lively declaration of the Lord of hosts ("Ubangiji Allah mai runduna").
Choirs sing this piece during the Eucharistic Prayer, right after the Preface, to lead the congregation into the most sacred part of the Mass. The rhythmic flow of the Hausa text, especially in the bright and uplifting "Hossana a cikin samania," brings a distinct energy to the liturgy.
Singers appreciate how the harmony builds throughout the arrangement. The transition from the majestic opening to the joyful Hosanna gives the choir loft a moment of genuine celebration, lifting the hearts of the faithful as they prepare for the consecration.
