KYRIE by Jerry Ayigyu Daniel — Lyrics
About KYRIE
Jerry Ayigyu Daniel’s setting of the "Kyrie" and "Agnus Dei" offers a solemn and prayerful arrangement of two central parts of the Mass Ordinary. Written entirely in tonic sol-fa, the score provides a clear, accessible path for choirs to lead the congregation in these essential moments of worship.
The first section, the "Kyrie," carries the traditional Greek plea for mercy with a measured, reverent tempo (marked Largo) that sets a penitential tone at the beginning of the liturgy. The music then transitions into the "Agnus Dei," sung in Latin during the breaking of the bread. Here, the choir repeats the invocation to the Lamb of God, building from a cry for mercy ("miserere nobis") to the final, peaceful resolution asking for peace ("dona nobis pacem").
Dedicated to "all the Orphans on the Globe," this composition brings a deep sense of human vulnerability and reliance on divine grace. It is a fitting choice for choirs looking for a straightforward yet deeply expressive setting for the Penitential Rite and Communion preparations.
