About Kyrie
When the choir is gathered for a service, Frances Matthews' setting of the Kyrie is a profound and moving choice. This substantial work for SSAATTBB voices is scored for a large choir, offering a rich palette of sound to explore. The text, presented in Greek, Latin, and English, moves from the familiar liturgical plea 'Kyrie eleison' through 'Christe eleison' and back again. Matthews’ composition harnesses the power of the combined vocal lines, creating a sonically dense and spiritually resonant experience appropriate for any significant liturgical occasion.
