Kristi, Ukochukwu Ebebe by Rev. Msgr. Cyril Ezenduka — Lyrics
About Kristi, Ukochukwu Ebebe
"Kristi, Ukochukwu Ebebe" is a reverent Igbo setting of Psalm 110, composed by Rev. Fr. C. Ezenduka. The title translates to "Christ, the Eternal Priest," and the song centers entirely on the mystery of Christ's priesthood in the line of Melchizedek. With its clear references to the offering of bread and wine, choirs frequently sing this piece during Ordination Masses, Holy Thursday liturgies, and as a Communion hymn.
The structure follows a traditional responsorial form. The refrain provides a steady, grounding meditation on Christ the Lord offering the Eucharistic elements. Meanwhile, the verses carry the prophetic narrative of the Psalm, moving from the Lord taking His seat at the right hand of the Father to the unbreakable oath of His eternal priesthood.
Written in a measured Andante tempo, the arrangement allows the text to be proclaimed with clarity and dignity. A cantor or select voices can lead the narrative verses, inviting the full choir and congregation to return to the solemn, unifying chorus. It brings a profound sense of awe to the church, focusing the minds of the faithful on the sacredness of the altar and the enduring nature of the priesthood.
