KAYIRA

"Kayira" (Take Us As We Are) is a humble and deeply moving Igbo offertory hymn. It captures the essence of bringing our gifts to the altar, acknowledging that whatever we offer is already a product of God's creation. The title itself is a plea for acceptance, asking the Father to receive the congregation just as they are.

During the presentation of gifts, the choir leads the people in this rhythmic, soulful melody. The verses reflect on the beauty of all created things, noting that since God made everything, our offerings are simply returning His own goodness to Him. The refrain builds on this humility, confessing that while our sacrifices might not fully match His glory, we ask Him to bless them and accept us entirely.

There is a profound sense of surrender in singing "Wer' anyị ka anyị ra." It reminds the singers and the congregation that the true offering at Mass isn't just the bread, wine, or collection, but the very lives and hearts of the people approaching the sanctuary.
