About In convertendo Dominus
This sacred motet sets a Latin text that draws on Psalm 125, a Song of Ascents. The words express a journey from sorrow to joy, from exile to homecoming. The composer, Patrick Douglas, sets this text for a substantial choir of five voices: treble, treble, tenor, tenor, bass. The music reflects the transformation described in the text, from tears to rejoicing, as the ancient words proclaim God's mighty acts and the eventual harvest of a sown seed. It is a piece suited to seasons of reflection and ultimate gladness, perhaps Lent leading into Easter, or Advent anticipating Christmas.
