IHE OMIMI by Stanley Anih — Lyrics
About IHE OMIMI
"Ihe Omimi" translates to "A Mystery," and Stanley S.A Anih’s composition captures exactly that—the profound, unexplainable wonder of the Holy Eucharist. From the opening antiphon, the cantor and choir reflect on how heaven and earth, God and humanity, become one in the holy meal ("oriri nsọ"). It is a piece that invites the congregation into deep reverence, marveling at how the bread of angels becomes food for mortals.
Musically, the arrangement uses a calm, deliberate tempo (marked *Largo*) to build a sense of awe. The verses walk through the transformation of bread and wine by the power of the Holy Spirit, leading into a powerful second verse that declares the true presence of Christ—body, blood, soul, and divinity. Choirs often bring this out during Communion or on the Feast of Corpus Christi, using its rich harmonies to draw worshippers into quiet adoration. The repeated refrain, "Ọ dị omimi ọgbar'ụwa gharịị" (It is a mystery that confounds the world), perfectly sums up the feeling of standing before the altar.
