Hodie completi sunt by Hieronymus Praetorius — Lyrics
About Hodie completi sunt
This powerful motet for double choir (SATB.SATB) is set in Latin and draws its text from the liturgy for Pentecost. Hieronymus Praetorius vividly depicts the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. The text describes the fulfilment of the days of Pentecost, the appearance of the Holy Spirit in fire, the bestowal of spiritual gifts, and the disciples being sent out to preach the Gospel to the whole world. The grand double choir forces lend themselves to a rich, antiphonal texture, ideal for a festive occasion, powerfully conveying the theological message of the text.
