ONYE MMEHIE

"Onye Mmehie" is a solemn and dignified Igbo choral anthem that speaks directly to the heart of the repentant Christian. Composed by Harcourt White and transcribed by Laz Ekwueme, the piece is a gentle but urgent call to the lost. It paints a picture of a loving Creator and a merciful Jesus calling out to those who have wandered off the path, reminding them that the door to grace is always open.

Choirs often raise this piece during the season of Lent, or as a deeply reflective meditation during penitential services and times of prayer. The recurring plea, "Mgbaghara dị, Bịa n'okwukwe!" (There is forgiveness, come in faith!), resonates powerfully through the choir loft and into the pews. As the voices weave together, urging the listener to "gee ntị" (listen) to the Lord's voice, the anthem creates a space for quiet surrender, reminding the congregation that faith is the only requirement to return home.
