About Gute Nacht
Ferdinand Möhring was a composer of German Lieder and partsongs. This intimate secular setting, Gute Nacht, is written for TTBB and SATB choirs. The German text speaks of the coming of night, with the moon rising to sing the clouds a lullaby. Birds seek their nests, flowers bow their heads, and even the mill stream falls silent. The song offers a peaceful vision of the world settling into slumber under the watchful eye of the moon, with a recurring refrain urging all to sleep in peace, covered by God's love.
