GOZIE NNA, NARA ANYI by Ben Ukoh — Lyrics
About GOZIE NNA, NARA ANYI
"Gozie Nna, Nara Anyi" is a bright and reverent Igbo offertory hymn that calls the congregation to the altar with hearts full of thanksgiving. The title translates to a plea for God’s blessing and acceptance, setting the perfect tone for the presentation of gifts. Right from the opening chorus, the song reminds us of the profound nature of the Holy Mass ("Aja mịssa dị asọ"), recognizing it as the sacrifice through which God gives us life.
During the Offertory, this piece gives the choir and the whole church a sense of joyful purpose. The verses encourage everyone to step forward and give thanks ("K'anyị jebe na kene Nna"), acknowledging that everything we possess ultimately belongs to the Lord. It is a sincere expression of surrender, asking God to take us exactly as we are and to accept the fruits of our labor.
Singing this arrangement brings a wonderful energy to the liturgy. The interplay between the voices in the later sections builds a feeling of communal prayer, culminating in the final refrain where the choir promises to hold onto God in every situation. It is a deeply comforting and uplifting piece to share with a congregation.
