GLORIA IN EXCELSIS

When the choir strikes up the Gloria, the entire atmosphere of the Mass shifts to one of profound celebration. This sheet brings together two distinct settings of that great angelic hymn. The first, "Gloria In Excelsis" by Rev. Fr. Emem Umoren, sets the traditional Latin text to a bright, rhythmic solfa melody. Singing these ancient words connects the local parish to the universal Church, carrying the same joyful proclamation that has echoed through centuries of liturgy.

Right below it sits Jude Nnam’s "Otito Diri Chineke," a beloved Igbo setting of the same prayer. Where the Latin brings a sense of solemn majesty, the Igbo chorus immediately grounds the praise in the vibrant, rhythmic heart of Nigerian worship. Moving from "Et in terra pax" to "Otito diri Chineke n'elu kach'elu n'uwa" is a beautiful reflection of how our choirs pray: honoring the deep traditions of the faith while lifting up our voices in the language of our own homes.
