Gleich als der Hirsch by Georg Vogler — Lyrics

About Gleich als der Hirsch
Georg Vogler sets a German text for the soprano and bass voices, exploring a well-known devotional theme. The lyrics, which speak of a longing for Christ, liken the soul's yearning to a deer seeking water, and call for divine intervention from heaven. The text expresses a fervent desire for salvation, anticipating the coming of Jesus Christ as the Redeemer. This sacred piece uses the imagery of rain and the earth opening to convey the urgency and depth of faith, culminating in the plea for God to descend and send forth the Lamb who will take away the sins of the world. The composer's setting emphasizes the powerful and heartfelt nature of this spiritual message.
