GAYYATAR UBANGIJI (The Lord's Invitation)

"Gayyatar Ubangiji" (The Lord's Invitation) is a reverent Hausa communion motet composed by Jacob Enenche Okwori. Written in 2011 for the All Hallows' Choir at the University of Abuja, the piece serves as a gentle but compelling call to the Eucharistic table. The lyrics speak directly in the voice of Christ, inviting His children and friends ("yarana", "abokaina") to come and partake of the bread of life and the cup of salvation.

Choirs typically sing this during the Communion rite. The melody flows with a moderate, steady tempo, building into a rich choral invitation to consume the "abinci na mala'iku" (bread of angels). As the cantor and choir alternate their parts, the song emphasizes the healing, strength, and rest ("sami lafiya", "sami hutu") found in the Body and Blood of Christ. It provides a deeply moving reflection for the congregation as they process to the altar to receive the Eucharist.
