Gaudete by Giovanni Matteo Asola — Lyrics
Gaudete in Domino semper, iterum dico, gaudete.Modestia vestra nota sit omnibus hominibus, Dominus prope est.Nihil solliciti sitis, sed in omni oratione petitiones vestrae innotescant apud Deum.
Benedixisti, Domine, terram tuam, avertisti captivitatem Jacob.Sicut erat in principio in principio et nunc et semper et in saecula saeculorum.Amen.
About Gaudete
This motet by Giovanni Matteo Asola is suitable for entrance music, perhaps during the liturgical season of Advent. The SATB voicing is appropriate for a mixed-voice choir. Asola sets a joyful Latin text drawn from Philippians, calling for rejoicing in the Lord and reminding the faithful that the Lord is near. The composer encourages a spirit of calm trust, urging supplication with a confident expectation of God's attention. The piece builds to a profound sense of peace and divine blessing, reflecting the ancient tradition of Marian antiphons.
