Gaudent in coelis by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina — Lyrics
About Gaudent in coelis
This motet would be especially fitting for feasts of All Saints, or any celebration of the saints. The Latin text speaks of the joy of the souls of the saints in heaven, who have followed in Christ's footsteps and shed their blood for his love, and now rejoice with him eternally. The composer’s setting for ATBB voices is a fine example of Renaissance sacred polyphony, characterised by its clarity and serene beauty. The text is a responsory from the Office of the Common of Saints. An Alleluia is often added.
