About Gaudent in coelis
The souls of the saints rejoice in heaven, for they have followed the footsteps of Christ. Because they shed their blood for His love, they exult with Christ forever. This joyful Latin text, a sequence from the liturgy, is set here by Richard Dering for two sopranos. The music captures the exultation of the saints, painting a vibrant scene of heavenly celebration. Dering’s setting is a clear and expressive example of sacred motet writing from the period.
