About Freedom
Elisha West's setting of Freedom for SATB choir offers a rich exploration of sacred text. The work moves between Latin and English, weaving together liturgical phrases and vernacular declarations. The composer draws on psalmody and biblical prophecy, with opening sections referencing the prophecies of Haggai and Zechariah, and the psalmist's praise of God. The text proclaims God as the ultimate source of salvation and deliverance, contrasting human fallibility with divine constancy.
