EZI CHINEKE

"Ezi Chineke" is a bright and welcoming entrance hymn that immediately gathers the congregation into the presence of God. From the very first line, "anyi abiago" (we have come), the song establishes a sense of joyful arrival. It is a wonderful piece to open a Sunday Mass, setting a tone of reverence and communal worship as the choir and clergy process toward the altar.

The verses draw beautifully from the Psalms to anchor the choir's praise. The first verse echoes the familiar rejoicing of Psalm 118 ("This is the day the Lord has made"), while the second verse brings in the profound devotion of Psalm 84, reminding us that one day in God's courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. As the voices unite at the end of each verse to ask for God's blessing ("Chineke moo biko, gozie anyi"), the piece becomes both a declaration of faith and a humble petition for grace.
