EYEN ERONG ABASI

"Eyen Erong Abasi" is a gentle and reverent setting of the Agnus Dei, composed by Bon. S. A. Inyang. Sung in Efik, the title translates to "Lamb of God," and the piece is designed for that quiet, profound moment in the Mass during the breaking of the bread. The melody carries a sense of deep petition, perfectly matching the plea for mercy and peace before the congregation approaches the altar for Communion.

The structure follows the traditional three-part invocation of the Lamb of God, guided by the composer's performance notes at the bottom of the score. For the first two times, the choir sings "Tua nnyin mbom," asking God to have mercy on us as He takes away the sins of the world. On the final repetition, the prayer shifts to "No nnyin emem," a settling request to grant us peace. Inyang's solfa arrangement keeps the harmony accessible yet moving, allowing the choir to lead the faithful in a deeply spiritual preparation for the Eucharist.
